The Software Category<\/strong> feature in Zecurit<\/a> allows IT administrators to group related software into meaningful categories, making it easier to manage, audit and report on software usage across the organization. This improves visibility, simplifies compliance tracking and enhances inventory organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Use Software Categories?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Grouping software by categories offers several advantages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simplified Inventory Management<\/strong><\/td>– Quickly filter and view software by type (e.g., Productivity Tools<\/em>, Security Software<\/em>, Development Tools<\/em>)- Eliminate clutter in the software inventory view<\/td><\/tr>
Enhanced License Tracking<\/strong><\/td>– Easily map software licenses to specific categories for better oversight and allocation<\/td><\/tr>
Improved Reporting & Audits<\/strong><\/td>– Generate reports by category (e.g., how many Antivirus<\/em> products are deployed across Windows<\/em> systems)- Helps during internal and external audits to justify software usage by category<\/td><\/tr>

Adding a New Software Category<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To create a new software category:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Go to Inventory \u2192 Software Category<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Click on “Add New”<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    You\u2019ll need to provide:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Field<\/th>Description<\/th><\/tr><\/thead>
    Category Name<\/strong> (Mandatory)<\/em><\/td>A meaningful name (e.g., Office Suite<\/em>, Developer Tools<\/em>, Security Software<\/em>).<\/td><\/tr>
    Platform<\/strong> (Mandatory)<\/em><\/td>Choose:
    \u2022 All<\/em>
    \u2022Windows<\/em>
    \u2022Mac<\/em>
    \u2022Linux<\/em><\/td><\/tr>
    Click \u201c+ Add Software\u201d<\/strong>.<\/td>\u2022 A popup will display available software.
    \u2022 Use search or filters to find and select software.
    \u2022 Select one or more entries, then click
    Save<\/strong>.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    Software Category List View<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    After saving, the system redirects to the Software Category List<\/strong>, showing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Column<\/th>Description<\/th><\/tr><\/thead>
    Category Name<\/strong><\/td>The name given to the category<\/td><\/tr>
    OS Type<\/strong><\/td>Selected platform (Windows, Mac, Linux, All)<\/td><\/tr>
    Software Count<\/strong><\/td>Total software entries assigned to this category<\/td><\/tr>
    Created \/ Modified Time<\/strong><\/td>Timestamps for when the category was created or last modified<\/td><\/tr>
    Actions<\/strong><\/td>\u2022 Edit<\/strong>: Modify the category or associated software
    \u2022 Delete<\/strong>: Remove the category (note: software category will be moved to Not Assigned)<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    Default Category: “Not Assigned”<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
