Geo Tracking (Device Locations)

⌘K

Geo Tracking, positioned as Device Locations within the Inventory module in Zecurit, is a vital security feature that allows IT administrators to monitor the real-time physical location of all managed devices.

This feature is particularly useful for IT teams managing remote workforces or securing devices across various locations.

What is Geo Tracking?

Geo Tracking leverages OS-level location services to detect the physical location of each managed device.

This information is displayed on the Device Locations Map, helping admins:

  • Verify asset location: Confirm devices are where they should be.
  • Detect misplaced or unauthorized devices: Quickly identify devices that are not in their expected locations.
  • Perform location-based investigations: Aid in investigations during data breaches or device theft.

⚠️ Zecurit does not store historical location data unless the Location History setting is explicitly enabled.

Accessing Device Location Information

1. Device Locations View (All Devices)

You can access this view by navigating to Inventory → Device Locations.

Key Features:

  • Map View: See all managed devices displayed on a map.

Requirements for Geo Tracking to Work

For Zecurit to successfully fetch geo-location details, the device’s location services must be enabled.

How to Enable Location Services:

  • On Windows:
    1. Go to Settings → Privacy → Location.
    2. Ensure Location for this device is set to On.
    3. Scroll down and turn on Allow apps to access your location.
    4. Verify that the Zecurit Agent or system-level services are allowed to access location.
  • On macOS:
    1. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
    2. Turn on Location Services.
    3. Click the lock icon to make changes if necessary.
    4. Enable access for System Services and ensure the Zecurit Agent or system components are authorized.

Why Use Geo Tracking?

Geo Tracking provides several key benefits for IT security and management:

  • Enforces device accountability: Helps ensure devices are used responsibly and in authorized areas.
  • Detects geo-anomalies: Identifies devices being used in unexpected or unapproved locations.
  • Supports compliance and audit trails: Provides location data for regulatory compliance and auditing purposes.
  • Enhances incident response: Improves the ability to respond to incidents like asset loss or theft by providing location information.
