Overview
Once a Deployment Policy has been published, the final step is to assign it to the devices or device groups you want to target. This is done from the Groups and Devices section of the console.
You can assign a deployment policy to individual devices, to an entire device group, or to both simultaneously. When new devices are added to a group that has an active deployment policy, the deployment will automatically apply to them as well.
Navigation: Go to Manage → Groups and Devices.
Assigning a Deployment Policy to Devices
Use this method to target one or more specific individual devices.
Steps:
- Go to Manage → Groups and Devices and select the Devices tab.
- Select the checkbox next to the device or devices you want to target. You can select multiple devices at once.
- Click the Actions button in the top-right corner of the device list.
- From the Actions dropdown, hover over Distribute.
- In the Distribute submenu, click Deployment Policy.
- A search panel will appear. Search for or browse to the deployment policy you want to assign.
- Select the desired policy.
- Confirm the assignment. The selected devices will now receive the deployment based on the policy’s configured schedule and rules.
💡 Tip: Use device-level assignment for targeted deployments — for example, when rolling out to a pilot group of specific machines before a wider release.
Assigning a Deployment Policy to Groups
Use this method to deploy software to an entire collection of devices organized into a group — such as a department, location, or device type.
Steps:
- Go to Manage → Groups and Devices and select the Groups tab.
- Select the checkbox next to the group or groups you want to target.
- Click the Actions button in the top-right corner of the group list.
- From the Actions dropdown, hover over Distribute.
- In the Distribute submenu, click Deployment Policy.
- Search for or browse to the deployment policy you want to assign.
- Select the desired policy.
- Confirm the assignment. The deployment policy will be applied to all devices currently in the selected group.
💡 Tip: Any new device added to a group with an active deployment policy will automatically receive the deployment — no manual re-assignment is needed.
What Happens After Assignment
Once a deployment policy is assigned:
Monitoring Deployment Status
After assigning a policy, you can track its progress directly from the Groups and Devices section — no need to navigate elsewhere.
Checking Deployment Count on Devices
- Go to Manage → Groups and Devices and select the Devices tab.
- The device list displays a Deployment column showing the number of deployment policies currently associated with each device.
- Click on any device name to view its full deployment details, including the status of each assigned policy.
Checking Deployment Count on Groups
- Go to Manage → Groups and Devices and select the Groups tab.
- The group list displays a Deployment column showing how many deployment policies are associated with each group.
- Click on any group name to open the group detail view.
- Inside the group detail, select the Deployments tab to see all deployment policies assigned to that group.
- The deployments table shows the following details for each policy:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Deployment Name | The name of the assigned deployment policy |
| Profile Type | The type of deployment (e.g., Deployment) |
| Created By | The administrator who created the policy |
| Status | Current deployment status — In Progress, Success, Failed, or Pending |
| Version | The version of the policy |
| Distributed Version | The version currently distributed to devices in the group |
| Associated Time | The date and time the policy was assigned to the group |
| Remarks | Any additional notes or system remarks |
💡 Tip: If a deployment shows In Progress, the installation is actively running or waiting for offline devices to come online. Devices that were offline at the time of assignment will receive the deployment automatically once they reconnect to the Zecurit server.
Tips for Effective Targeting
- Pilot first: Assign the policy to a small test group (e.g., your IT department) before rolling it out to the full organization. Monitor for 24–48 hours, then expand to broader groups.
- Use groups for scale: Group-based assignment is the most efficient way to manage deployments across large numbers of devices.
- Combine targeting: You can assign the same policy to both individual devices and groups at the same time if needed.
- Department-specific software: Create separate groups per department and assign department-specific deployment policies to each — giving you precise control over what is installed where.
