Device Groups in Zecurit provide a logical way to organize your managed devices. By grouping devices, administrators can streamline remote actions, enforce configurations and apply policies more efficiently across multiple endpoints.
Whether you’re managing hundreds or thousands of devices, grouping allows you to manage them by department, geography, purpose or compliance level.
Why use Device Groups?
- Helps segregate devices by team, business unit, or usage type.
- Simplifies remote actions such as asset scanning.
- Enables policy-based configuration based on group membership.
- Improves visibility into device compliance and status.
- Supports role-based access, device groups can be assigned to specific technicians, allowing them to manage only the devices relevant to their role or region.
Group Types
Zecurit supports two types of device groups, depending on how you want to manage group membership and exclusivity:
1. Static Groups
- Description: Static Groups allow you to manually add or remove devices. These groups are flexible and ideal for organizing devices based on operational or administrative logic.
- Key Features:
- A device can be part of multiple static groups.
- Manual assignment gives full control to the admin.
- Best suited for custom or ad-hoc grouping.
- Use Case Examples:
- Grouping devices for a temporary campaign.
- Classifying endpoints by IT administrator region.
2. Unique Groups
- Description: Unique Groups enforce exclusive membership — a device assigned to a unique group cannot be added to any other group (static or unique). This ensures a strict grouping structure where no overlaps are allowed.
- Key Features:
- Exclusive membership ensures cleaner policy application.
- Prevents device duplication across configurations.
- Best for compliance-based or critical device segments.
- Use Case Examples:
- Grouping secure devices with elevated restrictions.
- Enforcing unique configuration sets for dedicated departments.
How to create a Device Group
- Navigate to Settings → Organization → Device Groups.
- Click “Create Group”.
- Choose the Group Type: Static or Unique.
- Provide a Group Name and optional description.
- Add devices to the group (manually for Static; system-managed for Unique).
- Save the group.
Only Super Admins and users with appropriate permissions can create or modify groups.
Managing Groups
- Edit Group: Change name or reassign devices (for static groups).
- Delete Group: Remove the group (devices will remain managed but ungrouped).
- View Group Membership: Quickly see which devices belong to each group.
Best Practices
- Use Static Groups for flexibility and general organization.
- Use Unique Groups when exclusivity is required for policies or configurations.
- Regularly review group assignments to ensure accuracy.
- Name groups clearly to reflect purpose or department for easier identification.
By using Device Groups effectively, you can dramatically enhance your operational efficiency, ensure better compliance, and make bulk operations like remote commands more targeted and manageable.
